ABSTRACT: The article is an overview of bibliographic research into the topic of surface and ground water interaction. Analytical solutions of differential equations describing this interaction have been significantly enhanced in recent years by numerical solutions from the ground water, surface water and sub-surface water modelling, as displayed in the overview of "real-life" studies. Other aspects of this interaction are discussed, including the problems of river bed clogging, and connections between the morphology of the river bed, the type of sediments, the water velocity and other factors such as leakage and water flow in a hyporheic zone. Additional valuable sources of information in quantifying this interaction are solute transport in the hyporheic zone and utilization of natural tracers such as temperature and naturally occurring isotopes of different chemical elements.
