ABSTRACT: Mining activity has a significant effect on the natural environment and landscape character. Coal mining and dewatering of the coal deposit significantly affects the flow of groundwater, but it also models the landscape and creates new options of the land usage. From the hydrogeological point of view the Nováky coal deposit is one of the most complex hydrogeological deposits in Europe (3 drainage systems of considerable thickness and two artesian ones). This is accompanied with possible threat of influencing nearby healing resources of the Bojnice Spa, which protection has always been dominant and preferred in the exploitation process.
