ABSTRACT: This paper analyses the chemistry of the Kalinkovo monitoring well in the Žitný ostrov area to establish the following (1) basic changes in groundwater quality, (2) temporal changes in groundwater chemical composition, (3) changes in water quality with increasing depth and (4) the impact of Danube surface water on changes in groundwater chemical composition. To accomplish this, chemical composition changes in the Kalinkovo monitoring well groundwater between 1985 and 2010 were analysed at the three observed levels of 13 m, 45 m, and 58 m. Data was drawn from the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute’s long-term groundwater quality monitoring records. The following 20 groundwater parameters were evaluated; water temperature, electric conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, CODMn, TOC, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, NH4+, Fetot., Fe2+, Mn, Cl-, SO42-, HCO3-, NO2- a NO3- and TDS.
