ABSTRACT: Hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical properties of groundwater of the Turčianska kotlina basin are presented in the paper. The results were obtained within the project of hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical mapping program held by State Geological Institute of Dionyz Stur. Quaternary sediments dominate in the basin area with hydrogeological significance of especially fluvial sediments. For the fluvial sediments, average transmissivity value of T = 8,89.10-3 m2/s was calculated. Similarly, favorable hydrogeological properties were observed for fluvial sediments of terraces (Váh river) with average transmissivity coefficient of T = 3,63.10-3 m2/s. Important role in the area plays transition of groundwater from the surrounding mountainous territory into the basin area (probably several hundred l/s of groundwater infiltrate hiddenly into the basin). Chemical composition of groundwater strongly coincides with mineralogical character of host rock formations. Origin of groundwater is very variable due to complex geological structure of the area and many groundwater chemical types are typical for this region. In natural (not contaminated) groundwater of the first aquifer, the Ca-HCO3 or Ca-Mg-HCO3 water types dominate.
